Healthy Mouth Assessments

It is important to the team at Glow that our patients know the difference between a ‘check-up’ and a ‘Healthy Mouth Assessment’.

At Glow we like to refer to your 6 month maintenance visits as Health Mouth Assessments, not ‘just a check-up’! Our dentist and nursing team examine many areas at this important visit. We don’t just look at your teeth, we assess the overall health, wellbeing and function of your teeth, gums, soft tissue, jaw joints, cosmetic appearance and function.

At Glow, we believe that your Healthy Mouth Assessment is the most important part of your long-term dental health.

Radiographs – Where necessary, we will take x-rays of your teeth so we can assess the health of the foundations of your current smile. We may also decide to take an OPG x-ray, which gives us a great overall view of what’s going on in your mouth as a whole.

Photographs – Essential for treatment planning and a great communication tool to use with our laboratory when assessing facial shape and symmetry. Its also nice for our patients to see before and after shots of their cosmetic dentistry.

Tooth Check – A through assessment of the health, function and appearance of your teeth and any existing restorations.

Gum Health – We will carry out an extensive gum assessment to again assess the foundation of your teeth. We may recommend a Hygienist programme after this and/or bespoke homecare products.

Bite Records – Assessment of how your teeth meet and move across each other – this is important in terms of the function of any new restorations we may provide.

Jaw Joint – Assessment of external jaw joints – often related to headaches/migraines – closely related to ‘bite’ issues. Vital when carrying out complex dentistry.

Internal Soft Tissue – Assessing the health of tongue, cheeks and palate – and Oral Cancer Screening.

External Soft Tissue – Assessment of glands around your neck and lips. Noting facial profile and skin shade.

Lifestyle – Discussion surrounding your diet/smoking/alcohol consumption along with your general health and medication.

About You – Discussion regarding your wants and needs – getting to know you – time to relax and chat.
